IHDI Influenced Pricing

Program Pricing using the Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI)

ALJ believes in fair pricing for participants worldwide.

As an organization that focuses on developing leaders, ALJ is committed to maintaining a pricing structure that allows us to honor our truths:

  1. Our collective goal is to develop the awareness and capability of leaders worldwide in highly complex, uncertain and rapidly changing environments to improve their business outcomes.
  2. Pricing for participants in our global programs should be fair and equitable.
  3. We, as an organization, have a responsibility to give back.

Our approach to fair local pricing and equitable global pricing

Many of our training workshops offered directly through our licensed Guides are priced based on the Guide’s country of origin. Thus, these offerings, whether provided in person or online, consider both a fair local price and local currency. In those cases, the prices listed by our independent Guides reflect the rate to be paid without special discount compensation.

However, our globally offered programs administered by Agile Leadership Journey (most commonly our Applied Agility programs and our leadership and executive coaching) invite participants from around the globe to participate, often in a shared learning and development ecosystem. For these programs, we incorporate leveled pricing based on a global economic and human development index

Therefore, our fee structure takes into consideration the United Nations’ Human Development Index (HDI) and Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI). The HDI ranks countries based on their average achievement in key dimensions of human development (including education, longevity, and standard of living) rather than strictly on economic growth. The IHDI adjusts rankings to factor in inequality related to health, education, and income.

So, the larger the gap between the HDI and IHDI, the greater the inequality (and related to our pricing structure, the lower the price for our services). While no pricing structure is perfect, we believe this to be as equitable as possible. Further, we consider the portion of costs that ALJ absorbs to be an investment in the leaders of today and tomorrow.

IHDI Influenced Pricing Categories

We introduced IHDI-influenced pricing in 2021 and it is embedded into our programs and the licensing fees paid by our global community of licensed trainers and coaches. From time to time, as the indexes are revised, we realign our categories to them. In 2024, our pricing structure was updated and its applicability depends on an individual’s country of residence. The following table reflects the current categories based on the IHDI ranking of each country:
