Why Agile Leadership?

The rise in complexity, uncertainty and rapid change have triggered a change in the landscape of work. Leaders expecting to leverage their past patterns of success will fall short both in terms of fully capitalizing on their people and in terms of underperforming in the marketplace.

Agile Scaling Models are everywhere, but none of them adequately address the crucial role of the leader in terms of personally accepting responsibility for agile leadership and values, and guiding the organizational change to appropriately engage and empower people and teams for that change to stick and the organization to grow.

Leadership Agility is the the ability to recognize your leadership patterns and biases, step out of your routing ways of thinking and responding, role model agile values and grow others and the organization.  It starts with the Leader!

AGILE LEADERSHIP IS DEVELOPING MATURITY OVER SKILLS

It is a myth that people enter adulthood at a similar level of maturity and only require developed skills and competences to grow their capability as a leader. The reality is that maturity continues well into adulthood and a leader's success at one position is often not adequate to succeed as the next. 

All leaders progress through maturation stages, but not at the same pace and sometimes not at all. Most leaders begin their journey as an expert in a particular discipline or domain. About half of leaders develop cross-discipline leadership capability and begin orchestrating others to accomplish their goals. However, less than 10% of leaders develop the highly collaborative and transformative behaviors found in catalyst agile leaders. This program is about developing those catalyst capabilities and improved leadership agility.

AGILE LEADERSHIP MATURITY IS A CONTINUUM WITH crevasse

Agile Leadership is less of a state and more of a journey. Agile Leadership is an ongoing development maturity model for leaders to continually discover and grow their own leadership effectiveness. As a leader progresses in their leadership agility, they improve their own self-awareness and action intent, they broaden their view of the organizational system to increase understanding of complexity, and are able to step back for a more expansive time horizon to make more informed decisions.

As leaders develop maturity, they are able to situationally step back to previous approaches. However, earlier stage leaders cannot access the more mature stages without significant practice and experience. This limits their effectiveness of situational leadership.
