Changewise Leadership Agility 360 + Coaching

This combined leadership assessment and coaching program is focused on developing leadership agility, building catalyst habits and influencing more agile ways of working. The program is personalized and includes a Changewise Leadership Agility 360 assessment paired with one-on-one professional coaching by an ALJ Guide certified as a Leadership Agility 360 Coach.

Available for both individuals and leadership teams, this program leverages the resources available to our coaches through our Agile Leadership Journey™ curriculum including our foundational Agile Leadership Compass™. The assessment is specifically used to ascertain the leader's current leadership agility level and provides a detailed report. Through the debriefing process and one-on-one coaching, a Guide provides an actionable road-map for the leadership journey.

What is Changewise Leadership Agility 360?

Changewise Leadership Agility 360 is a leadership assessment based on the research underlying Bill Joiner and Stephen Joseph’s book, Leadership Agility. Spanning five years, their research addressed what effective leadership looks like in an environment where complexity is increasing and the pace of change is constantly accelerating. The research demonstrated that leaders are capable of growing through a series of predictable, learnable "agility levels" that are rooted in well-documented stages of personal development.

Further, this work builds upon 25 years of leadership development research by David Bradford and Allan Cohen (authors of Managing for Excellence and Power Up among other books). Bradford and Cohen's research focuses on the potential for development of individual leadership competencies and fostering a feedback-rich social environment required for effective interpersonal interactions.

This 360 assesses the primary levels of leadership agility (expert, achiever, and catalyst), providing quantitative and qualitative data on the perceptions of the leader’s thinking and behaviors. Feedback from the leader, one or two managers, stakeholders, peer groups, and employees provide a complete leadership profile.

The leader’s agility is assessed across four primary dimensions. These are:

Context-setting agility

The ability to scan the environment, frame leadership initiatives that need to be taken, and clarify the outcomes that need to be achieved.

Stakeholder agility

The ability to engage with key stakeholders in ways that build support for leadership initiatives.

Creative agility

The ability to transform problems encountered into the results that are needed.

Self-leadership agility

The ability to use leadership initiatives as opportunities to develop into the kind of leader one aspires to be.

Self-leadership agility

Further, the leader is evaluated in three different leadership contexts or “action arenas”. These contexts are:

Leading Organizational Change

How does the leader improve an organization and its relationships?

Improving Team Performance

How does the leader improve a team and its relationships?

Engaging in Pivotal Conversations

How does the leader engage in one-on-on, high-stakes discussions?

One-on-One Coaching

One of our Certified Leadership Agility 360 Coaches guides the initial orientation session, administers the assessment, conducts the Leadership Agility 360 Feedback Report debrief session, and engages directly with the leader in the roadmap and action planning coaching sessions.

The initial orientation session helps the leader consider their current leadership role, initiatives and direction with a focus on why this leadership assessment and coaching is important. From a practical perspective, this session also helps the leader consider and select feedback providers to participate in the 360. The orientation also familiarizes the leader with the instrument itself, the process and establishes next steps.

The feedback debrief session helps the leader understand the findings in the report and what it says about their current leadership level in each of the practices assessed. Feedback on expert, achiever and catalyst characteristics provide key insights on the leader’s current thinking, focus and behavior. The coach helps the leader make sense of the feedback received and works with the leader to determine what they want to focus on. The feedback report, coupled with the debrief coaching session, provides critical self-awareness to guide next steps in the leader’s journey.

The Guide works with the leader to develop a clear and actionable roadmap to improve the leader-directed targeted areas of focus. The action plan that the Guide and the leader develop become the foundation for next steps by the leader. Depending on the specific needs of the leader and the focus areas selected, the Guide may utilize aspects of the Agile Leadership Journey™ curriculum to aid the leader’s journey toward more agile and effective leadership through awareness and daily practice. The Guide helps the leader to connect the new awareness and practices to the leader’s current leadership initiatives.
